Stop Guessing with Your UV Lamps
For the longest time, UV lamps have basically been “blind.” You wire them in, set a timer, and just pray they don’t burn out right in the middle of a big run. It’s a nerve-wracking way to run a floor. We’re fixing that. By building energy monitoring right into the ballast and control circuit, we’ve turned a simple light bulb into something that actually talks to you. Knowing your power in real-time Most lamps are just on or off. That’s it. But we’ve added current sensors and voltage monitors so you can see exactly how much power each tube is pulling. Here’s why that matters: it tells you when a lamp is dying before it actually quits. If you see the energy draw drift by 10%, you know it’s time to swap it out. No more staring at hour-meters and guessing. You replace the lamp because the data tells you the output is dropping, not because a calendar told you to. The trade-offs To make this work, we use Modbus or IO-Link. It’s how the lamp sends a message to your PLC or a dashboard on your screen. Now, there is a catch. These sensors take up a bit more room, so your power supply footprint is slightly larger. You’ll need a little more space in your cabinet. The initial wiring is a bit more involved, too. But honestly? That’s a small price to pay for never having to do manual inspections again. Killing the downtime Think about the time your techs spend walking around with a radiometer every single shift. It’s a slog. With remote monitoring, you just look at the screen. You can spot a drop in energy instantly. This is huge because it stops “under-curing”—that nightmare scenario where the lamp looks like it’s glowing, but it isn’t actually hitting the dose you need. Plus, if you’re running high-volume lines, you can catch a failing tube during a scheduled coffee break. That beats stopping the entire line during a peak run any day of the week.
