
Getting UV Sterilization Right for Printed Fabrics
When you’re dealing with printed textiles, you can’t just throw any old UV light at the problem. You need something that kills the germs without messing up your colors or ruining the fabric. That’s exactly why we built our systems the way we did.
The balance of power and speed
Here’s the thing: you want your conveyor lines moving fast. To make that happen, we use high-intensity lamps tuned to specific wavelengths. It lets you speed up the line without worrying that the fabric isn’t actually getting sterilized. But there’s a catch. If you crank the wattage too high to chase more speed, you risk scorching the material. It’s a delicate balance. If you’re planning to push the limits, just make sure you’ve got a solid high-velocity cooling system in place so your fabric doesn’t overheat.
Keeping the lights on
We use high-purity fused quartz for the lamp envelopes. Why? Because it lets the most UV light through and doesn’t crack when things get hot and cold in a busy factory. To keep the lamps from burning out too early, we added precision ballasts. They smooth out those annoying voltage spikes that usually eat away at the electrodes. It just makes the whole system last longer.
Fitting it into your shop
We designed these units to be simple drop-in replacements. If you’re still running those old, power-hungry mercury systems, these will fit right into your existing frames without taking up a ton of space. Wiring is pretty easy, but a quick heads-up: make sure your shielding is grounded. You don’t want electrical noise messing with your print-head controllers. And a bit of honest advice? Stay on top of the cleaning. Dust is the enemy here. Even a thin layer on the quartz sleeves can tank your UV output. A quick wipe-down with isopropyl alcohol once a week is all it takes to keep everything running at full strength.
