Getting Your UV Curing Right with Gallium Iodide
Ever had a project where the top layer looks perfect, but the second you touch it, you realize the bottom is still a gooey mess? That’s “skinning,” and it’s a nightmare. Standard mercury lamps usually cause this because they can’t punch through thick coatings or heavy pigments. That’s why we build Gallium Iodide lamps. Instead of just hitting the surface, these lamps shift the light toward longer wavelengths (specifically that 300nm to 400nm sweet spot). It’s like the difference between a flashlight and a spotlight; the light actually reaches deep into the material to trigger the cure where it matters most. The build matters. We use high-purity quartz glass because we’ve all seen those lamps that turn cloudy over time—that’s solarization, and it kills your output. By keeping the quartz clean of impurities, we stop that from happening. One quick tip: when you’re hooking these up, double-check your ballast. If the impedance doesn’t match the lamp, you’re going to see flickering, or worse, you’ll burn the lamp out way too soon. A word of caution on heat. These lamps pack a punch, but they run hot. Really hot. If you try to run these in a closed box without some serious airflow, you’re asking for trouble. If your conveyor is moving too slowly, the heat can actually warp your parts before they even finish curing. You’ve got to find that balance between your wattage, your line speed, and your cooling fans. Our promise to you. We aren’t interested in fancy brochures. We care about what happens on your shop floor. We benchmark our lamps against the biggest global brands. If our gear doesn’t give you the same results as a high-end name brand at the same price, we’ll give you your money back. No hoops to jump through. We just look at the raw data and the actual cure rate of your product. Simple as that.
